Most rally drivers will tell you that they control where the car goes. The truth is that they do physically but the main person controlling the route the car takes, both on and off stage, is the navigator.
This year Sol Rally Barbados was to see me with a new international navigator, so I made a conscious decision to move to a more professional pace note system. With the thoughts of the pace notes that are available for the MSA Asphalt Championship, I opted to move to a numbers system.
The system we use is know as ‘Six Fastest - Number First’, it is probably the second most widely used note system. Calls will combine with a variety of distances, in meters, along with other information relevant to the particular part or obstacle of the stage.
Check out the short video on this page for a chance to hear the system in use.
